Job Summary
Compass Group, the world’s largest contract foodservice company, has a Great Opportunity for career development and growth here at its North America headquarters in Charlotte, NC as a Union Accounting Director.
The Union Accounting Director is responsible for ensuring that the Union Accounting team is interpreting the provisions of labor agreements correctly and complying with contract (Collective Bargaining Agreements) terms while calculating and remitting benefit contributions and union dues to unions and union funds. They are also responsible for ensuring the team’s standards and SLAs are met and all policies and procedures are documented. They must lead by example, ensure adequate training and development of the team, and conduct all necessary follow up to ensure all customer needs are met in a timely and successful manner.
Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of approximately 16-17 Union Accountants/Analysts, auditors, supervisors and managers.
- Review Collective Bargaining Language for compliance to company policies.
- Work with Union Fund Leaders to establish communication and positive working relationships.
- Review of Audit team’s disputes with external vendors. Track metrics on findings.
- Review of database discrepancy reports and metric tracking on findings.
- Continuously look for ways to improve team’s efficiency and increase the departments value to the company.
- Assist in the resolution of complex problems relating to research, reconciliation, and union payments of all types (dues and benefits).
- Analyze and interpret labor agreements (CBA’s) to determine correct payable amounts and payment timetables.
- Review contribution calculations monthly and post to SAP.
- Ensure team meets departmental standards for accuracy, timeliness, and customer service.
- Ensure team receives the training and development needed to be successful.
- Implement and document new policies & procedures.
- Establish and maintain metrics to measure performance for each team member.
- Laise/Partner with Labor Relations on CBA verbiage issues, policy and process changes.
- Support Labor Relations with ad hock analysis requests.
- Apply critical thinking skills to make independent assessments, articulate recommendations and defend conclusions
- Understand data drivers to provide support and follow-up analysis to sector finance and key customers
- Maintain sensitivity to confidential business data
- Partner with multiple teams throughout Compass Group, including but not limited to Payroll, Field Accounting, Labor Relations and the various sector financial leadership teams
- Represent the department in project meetings as needed.
- Establish and develop open communication and interaction with the team, field associates, regional accountants, and other internal and external customers as needed to ensure your team’s success.
Qualifications:
- Four-year degree required, Accounting or Finance
- Five plus years accounting experience in a large corporation, preferably some in Accounts Payable
- Five plus years managerial experience
- Proficient in Excel
- Experience in reading/interpreting contracts a plus
- SAP, PowerBI and Access experience a plus
- Leadership and project management capability
- Detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills
- Able to multitask, constantly monitoring and adjusting priorities
- Team player in a fast paced and constantly changing and deadline driven environment
