This Senior Living Community is serving up 100-120 meals on the Healthcare side and 50-60 meals per day on the Independent Living side. There are two dining areas, one ala carte restaurant, one cafe and one walk-up service. This is a great property with a lot of growth potential with plans to expand. The leadership is inclusive, team members care a great deal and enjoy what they are doing. The restaurant has not been open in over two years and we are looking to get that up and running again, relaunched with an updated menu, look, and feel. A candidate who wants to be creative, takes care in their work and is good at developing team members would be a great fit. This position has a variable schedule starting between 9a-11a and working until 6pm-8pm, weekends included. This position will supervise the culinary team as well as assist with oversight of Dietary Aides. Previous healthcare experience is not required; someone with a background in ala carte restaurant, batch cooking and catering event experience is preferred.

 

Job Summary:

Working as the Sous Chef, you will be responsible for the successful operation of the Culinary Department for a Senior Living Community. You will assist in the supervision, preparation, and cooking of various food items, developing daily menu items and their preparation and garnishment. You may supervise hourly associates and you work with Executive Chef/Chef to develop new menus and assist with ordering. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, entrepreneurial Culinary professional. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Executive Chef with managing cost controls and control expenditures for the account
  • Assists the Executive Chef with planning and creating menus
  • Produces and execute catering events
  • Rolls out new culinary programs in conjunction with Company marketing and culinary team

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A.S. or equivalent experience
  • Some progressive culinary/kitchen management experience, depending upon formal degree or training
  • Catering experience a plus
  • High volume, complex foodservice operations experience - highly desirable
  • Institutional and batch cooking experiences helpful
  • Comprehensive knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Must be experienced with computers; to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), Outlook, E-mail and the Internet
  • Must be willing to participate in client satisfaction programs/activities 
  • ServSafe certified - highly desirable
