Job Summary
The District Manager is ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of a department business function. Success is defined as the effective implementation of the department values, vision, and brand throughout the business function, effective leadership of Area and Unit managers, development and management of effective business processes, and the achievement of established department objectives (KPIs).
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The District Manager is directly responsible for managing & leading Area Managers and/or Unit Managers who oversee the operations or support services functions of a department; District Managers are ultimately responsible for all managers and associates who report up through their respective business functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advises Regional Director in the development of the department vision, ensuring that the department function is adequately represented; communicates vision to direct reports and internal and external business partners; ensures that there is buy-in at both the management and associate levels.
- Develops plans to improve the performance of the department function in relation to key metrics; monitors efficacy of plans, and proactively makes and communicates adjustments as necessary.
- Takes necessary action to achieve established quarterly account Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); completes reporting on KPI performance as necessary.
- Ensures that the department brand is upheld and integrated into all facets of the business, including delivery to our clients and customers, internal Compass team members, suppliers, and applicants.
- Develops business plans and processes to effectively achieve the defined vision; evaluates business results and adjusts plans and processes to best meet business objectives.
- Implements the organizational structure for the defined business function; advises senior management on any need for organizational structure changes in order to best meet business objectives.
- Fills Area and Unit level management positions as necessary. Acts as a gatekeeper for all leadership positions reporting up through the defined business function, ensuring that all management level positions are filled with effective business leaders.
- Selects, coaches, and develops Unit and Area Managers to contribute to the overall leadership pipeline of the business.
- Holds managers accountable for adherence to defined processes and procedures, and adherence to department, Regional, and Company values.
- Partners with other department leaders to ensure effective cross-functional business delivery; models and holds direct reports accountable for effective collaboration and conflict resolution with department management and associates.
- Designs and proposes innovations and initiatives to bolster long-term business success, incorporating technology to continually advance the current state.
- Leads change initiatives within respective functional area of the department, including ensuring that Area and Unit Managers are managing change effectively in their areas of responsibility.
- Partners with Regional Director in managing the budget for the defined function, including building forecasts, developing budgets, and financial reporting.
- Takes necessary action to establish and maintain the Company culture for the defined department function; models and holds direct reports accountable for adhering to values-based leadership within the business, including effective transparency, accountability, and appreciation of valued team members.
- Facilitates team meetings for the department function and may represent the department function at Company meetings.
- Identifies critical issues & manages escalations from senior leadership to ensure concerns are resolved to satisfaction of the client and internal leadership.
- Works directly with other department leaders to achieve enterprise goals & initiatives and ensure the highest level of satisfaction for customers & clients.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BA in business administration or Associates Degree and equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 5 years as a manager of managers (e.g., Director or District Manager), with financial accountability & working with multiple teams (i.e. Finance, Marketing, Projects, etc.).
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a department or business function leader, including ownership of critical business processes.
- Experience in leading large, multi-faceted teams required.
- Ability to analyze customer needs & requests, think both strategically and tactically, business & time management skills, as well as the initiative & judgment to quickly evaluate issues, find alternatives & take appropriate courses of action.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management, including client interaction as necessary; tact in working with professional peers from other departments & all subordinates. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one & small group situations to customers, clients, & other employees of the organization.
- A successful candidate will be a team player, have excellent communication & customer service skills, have the ability to prioritize & manage multiple projects, and work under pressure in a high volume/fast-paced environment.
