Job Summary
The successful Merchandise Manager candidate will have an ability to infuse his/her team with a high level of excitement and sensibility to visualize and tailor merchandising efforts towards a focused, appropriate assortment of product. Creativity, innovation, newness, passion and drive are essential to the position. The Merchandise Manager must possess strong leadership and developmental skills to all team members, provide a sound business judgement, strong managerial skills, as well as a keen sense of customer identity, service, and product relevance. The Merchandise Manager will report directly to the Director of Retail.
Essential Duties:
MERCHANDISING/MARKETING:
- Evaluating and analyzing product performance and developing necessary strategies
- Serves as merchant leader for consumer and trend awareness
- Transforms consumer feedback and fashion trends into winning product assortments
- Encourages and leads the expansion and distortion of inventory or creation of new product to develop assortments that respond to current trends
- Develops processes and practices around pricing promotions and markdowns to meet sales and margin targets. Establishes pricing strategies by store type
- Ensures beneficial vendor alliances
- Identifies new business opportunities consistent with Rank + Rally short and long-term business strategies
- Oversight for product mix, distortion, gross margin, promotional expenditures, and markdowns
- Collaborate with Director of Retail and Cirque du Soleil on the merchandise planning and allocation
MERCHANDISE CONTROL AND ANALYTICS:
- Establish and maintain effective merchandise control systems including replenishment, open-to-buy, seasonal, liquidation plans, spot checks, etc.
- Ensure appropriate inventory management, where purchase orders are placed in a timely manner, inventory is aligned with customer selling, goods are flowing at the necessary rate, cancelable backups are in place and goods can be received earlier if selling dictates
- Ensure the timely flow and presentation of merchandise to store locations through close coordination with the merchandise team

- Minimum educational level of a BA / BS degree in Retail management, Business management or an analytical focus is preferred
- Must have 5+ years of experience in retail merchandise planning; 2+ years of experience in a lead or supervisory role is preferred
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel required, including v-lookups, pivot tables, and basic macros; must be able to manipulate large quantities of data in Microsoft Excel to drive business decisions
- Excellent time-management and high-level organizational skills
- Ability to effectively communicate, written and orally, with all levels of employees
- Working knowledge of retail math, including return on investments, gross margin, initial markup, etc. is essential
