Job Summary:

Compass Group, the world’s largest contract foodservice company, is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel - Employment Compliance to join its dynamic Legal Department at the U.S. headquarters in Charlotte, NC. This position offers excellent opportunities for career advancement and professional growth, allowing the successful candidate to play a pivotal role in shaping the company’s legal strategy. Reporting directly to the Senior Corporate Counsel, the Senior Corporate Counsel will act as a key legal advisor, balancing the company’s commercial goals with labor and employment compliance regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic and commercial legal counsel on a wide range of complex employment law matters on a wide variety of topics, including, but in no way limited to, wage and hour, living and prevailing wage, leave of absences, paid sick leave, immigration support, work authorization, and workplace safety.
  • Collaborate closely with senior leadership and business unit heads to align legal strategies with business
  • Monitor and assess changes in employment laws and regulations, providing proactive guidance to minimize legal risks and ensure compliance.
  • Assist with government contracting and compliance matters, as necessary.
  • Draft, develop and implement legal policies, procedures, guidance, and communications related to employment and labor compliance.
  • Support other compliance initiatives as directed by the Assistant General Counsel, including risk management, training, and internal audits.
  • Cultivate relationships with external legal counsel as needed and manage outside counsel in employment-related matters.
  • Assist in providing day-to-day management and oversight of the employment compliance legal group, including volume management, associate/employee support, and project maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to a state bar.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in labor and employment law, preferably in both a law firm and in-house corporate environment.
  • Extensive experience in labor and employment law, including wage and hour laws, prevailing wage, and other labor regulations.
  • Familiarity with California employment law required.
  • Familiarity with government contracting and compliance is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to read, interpret, and apply complex legal documents, laws, and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate legal risks and develop proactive legal strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and partner with business leaders at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-changing environment.
